What do you think about when you hear the word success? Wealth? Happiness? Career? There are endless things to sit and daydream about to become successful. But like the famous saying, “a dream without a plan is just a dream”.
And here’s the truth: many of us (me included at times) get stuck. We utter desires like “I want to be rich” or “I want to move out,” but those aspirations end with just the thought without actions being put in it. The key is to take action. Are you actively chasing your goals? Putting yourself out there?
There are several ways people can get motivated enough to chase those dreams. You have to first obviously want it, yearn for it. The human brain tends to constantly want stuff. We often say “I want… I want… I want…”. What do you want? Priotize corecctly. Is what you want achievable on your end? Will you be able to handle a loss? Look at it from all point of views, it is so easy to just think positivley and completely forget the negative side of things.
SMART, was something I was first introduced to in school, PE specifically. We had an assignment to set a goal such as “running 2 miles without taking breaks” or “ increase my speed and break my record for runnning for 10 minutes”. To achieve this, my teacher brought out a piece of paper where the word SMART in all capitals was prestended and for each letter we had to write a corresponding answer. The S in SMART ment specific, basically get a specefic goal that clearly defines what you want to accomplish. For example, instead of thinking/writing “I want to run faster”, think “I will be able to run a marathon in 6 months”. M stands for measurable which means that you need to track your progress to your goals. For example tracking the distance youre running every week. A is achievable, like I mentioned before, your goal needs to be attainbale and you need to consider everything, all the negatives and the positives. R stands for relevant, which basically means that your goals need to be relevant to what you want, make sure your goal aligns with your bigger purpose or priorities. For example, running a marathon might not be relevant if your goal is to improve upper body strength. Lastly T was about time. Having a deadline usually helps making you stay focused and more inclined to do what you want to achieve.
You need to be ready to take on the challenges that are coming with your goals and you need to be able to accept defeat. More things that can help you achieve your goal is to build a support network around you. Surround yourself among people who aspire to achieve the same goals as you, they don’t even need to be people that are physically around you. Finding friends online to help you can be just as great. There are many forums out there were people share their experiences and tips on how they have been able to get success.
And remember, consistency is key.
